“Join us for a tour and free hot chocolate on the evening of the First Friday of every December.”
The Annual Festival of Lights campaign begins around November 15th each year and runs through the holiday season.
History of the Festival of Lights (formerly known as Plaza of Lights)
The first Plaza of Lights fundraiser was held in December of 2008, with the hanging of holiday lights on the trees in the Olde Pickerington Village Plaza located behind the Violet Township Fire Station at 15 E. Columbus Street. The inaugural year of the Plaza of Lights raised over $20,000 and took place a few months before the PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington became a nonprofit organization. Money raised during the first few years of the Plaza of Lights were vital to enabling the PCMA Food Pantry to move into its current location at 70 Cross St., where it is located today.
For the past several years, the Violet Township Fire Department has partnered with the PCMA Food Pantry to improve the light display and set it to music. It is a dream of the PCMA Food Pantry to see the Festival of Lights continue to grow, creating an even more festive appeal during the holiday season. The PCMA Food Pantry of Pickerington relies on the Festival of Lights each year as its main fundraiser. While the local community is very generous with food donations throughout the year, the pantry also relies on monetary contributions to keep the “lights” in the pantry on and to purchase food staples that are often unable to be donated, such as milk, eggs, and meat. The Festival of Lights is a physical representation of the generosity of the community—each light lit at the Food Pantry represents the contributions made by individuals and businesses supporting our friends and neighbors in need in the Pickerington Local School District.
